in effort to reflect the situation of war / general anarchy / politically established hatered, that was on daily agenda in serbia back at that time. it still was under slobodan milosevic´s pathological rulership.
the aim was to promote all kind of weird stuff (funny and sort of not funny pictures, from modern days back to 100 years old events in the world history, revolutions next to funny-ad posters, strange essays, sick voting polls) and on the other side feature (rather as a hidden jams) rather too optimistic, naive and positive texts/essays which could make our world a better place.
so why all this fuss with / through Lepa Brena?
simply because in ex-YU she enjoyed big popularity, comparable to the popularity of such "stars" like Madonna in the so-called free world (back in the days of the World War III - Cold War).
she, like all other her collegues, didn´t care at all about what was going on in the country - war raging in parts of former yugoslavia, people getting deported, genocides, countries and societies falling apart in a civil / religious war
and particuallary her persona, being of a bosnian muslim origin, having made a career in serbia, never bothered about those issues, she was an entertainer. not even the fact there was a war going on between her fellowship bosnian moslems and serbs didnt bother her too much. she just switched to serbian side... changed name and religious orientation... THE SHOW MUST GO ON.
the site was in serbian, although most of the visual content were pretty understandable / readable for international visitors as well, some written content was in english too.
all in all, it was giving a rather weird puzzled mixture of big and small moments of world´s history without being precise what intention was behind all of this
my intention was further desorientation, de-information, confusing propaganda.
so what happend with it? it worked pretty well, lots of visitors, people taking part in voting polls which were asking which nation is going to the most hatered in the next year... hated, as a part of daily political agenda, actually reached a level where it became a part of pop culture. together with entertainers like Lepa Brena.
the best thing was, that her hardcore fans were regullary visiting the website, openning free email accounts...
at the end i simply forgot to renew the domain and it was grabbed by ultimatesearch.com - one of the biggest fake search engines (paid search results), one you get to when you enter a wrong URL.
now the content of the original www.lepabrena.com has been moved to http://lepabrena.4011.net/ and at www.lepabrena.com you can have a look what ultimatesearch looks like. they get paid crazy sums of money for each provided click.. from 0.5$ up to 5$

she was married to the most infamous criminal / war criminal of former yugoslavia - arkan, but he got puffed away (she was in his company at this tragic moment *lol*), his biotch is still alive, (this is what she looks like - google images) and once again, i forgot to renew the domain...the kkk (ultimatesearch) took it away....
now the original site resides under cecaraznatovic.4011.net, featuring the pictures of her arrest - because her best friends (also mates of her late husband) assassinted serbian prime minister zoran djindjic in march 2003 :-(

it is rather a simple site. it features a loop of several pictures and it contains the first passages from tolstoi´s "war and piece". and there is some gimmick about the way the written content is presented / the way you read (navigate) through the story.
but since it was just fooling / playing around there is no big deal about it.
right now i see it rather as a placeholder, i like the domain name and it is going to serve as a home for my movie project "Charon" and hopefully other to follow :-)

it is a short digital story, told in 4 king-size picts (3444x3420 pixels)
nowadays, most browsers downsize larger pictures... back in the day it was fun watching computers / browsers going down under the heavy-weight load of 9 megapixels jpeg :)
the story itself...
it features an android (kind of a bender) and it is all about his visit to LA and his analog (drunken) / digital interference with the beverly hill(s)

i own my firstname.com :-) the whole design was done in html code, using tables, borders and background colors.
there were no graphical elements used (gifs, jpegs...), the whole page design is done in html code (tables, borders, backgroundcolors...) and the site is being rendered in the browser itself.
therefore the results vary depending on the browser used.
IE on peecee looks best, but firefox (mac/peecee) looks good too.
safari (my favorite browser) sux, it renders rather quickly than good :(

the site was about the book "wiener wander tage" (viennese marching days) which was a name for thursdays-demonstrations against the new conservative/right wing government (what year was it, 2000, 2001?). the protest marches lasted for something like 18 months, and today, 2006, the same BS government is still in charge. :-(

we did a remix of an old austrian political science-fiction comedy "1st April 2000" from the year 1952. The movie itself was rather a blockbuster, big-budget production back in the day, today it is a relict of austrian/european movie industry and an oddity of a movie :-) hillarious to watch :-)
the trivia about this movie is the coincidence in the movie plot and the real political situation in the year 2000 - namely in the movie, austria is in the year 2000 still occupied after the WWII (simply because the 4 war-winning powers USA, Great Britain, France and the CCCP) forgot to withdraw from austria. and a political party is raising it´s voice and demanding freedom for austria.
the oddity (beside the movie itself) is the political coincidence in the year 2000, when the right-wing "freedoms party" became a part of the ruling coalition in austria :-)
